The Crime Lab and Education Lab are one organization that oversees two portfolios of intricately related work. For most positions, staff will work on projects that fall within both the Crime Lab and Education Lab portfolios or they may focus on one portfolio for a period of time. There are some exceptions where positions are designed exclusively for either the Crime Lab or Education Lab under one portfolio of work. This information will be clearly noted in the job description for each opening.
Data Project Associate
The University of Chicago Crime Lab and Education Lab are seeking a Data Project Associate with strong technical skills to work on large-scale social policy research projects designed to reduce crime and improve educational outcomes. The analyst will work on a portfolio of projects across a variety of areas that span both criminal justice and education. This position requires an individual who is able to work as a part of small research teams running multiple projects concurrently. The position offers the opportunity to work directly with leading social policy researchers at the University of Chicago and government agency staff, as well as an experienced team of data scientists, administrative staff, and project managers from the Chicago office.
Assistant Director, CVI Leadership Academy
The University of Chicago Crime Lab is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to support ongoing implementation of the Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy (CVILA). The Assistant Director will work closely with the senior leadership team of the CVILA and other members of the Crime and Education Labs to ensure the success and sustainability of the academy. The Assistant Director will provide both strategic, operational, and administrative support to the project to ensure effective and efficient implementation. We seek applicants who have program development, program management, program administration and project management experience.
Research Analyst
The UChicago Crime Lab and Education Lab are seeking Research Analysts with strong technical skills to work on large-scale social policy research projects designed to reduce crime and improve educational outcomes. The analyst will work on a portfolio of projects across a variety of areas that span both criminal justice and education. The successful candidate will have experience in applying a variety of statistical modeling and data analysis techniques to datasets in real-world settings. From project inception to delivery, the Research Analyst will contribute to all facets of data collection and cleaning, model development, and implementation. This position requires an individual who is able to work as a part of small research teams running multiple projects concurrently.
Assistant Director, Alumni Relations
The University of Chicago Crime Lab is seeking an experienced program administrator who can support the expansion of the Policing Leadership Academy (PLA) and the Crime Lab’s work in partnership with law enforcement agencies as the Assistant Director, Alumni Relations. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Policing Leadership Academy; the Executive Director, Crime Lab; as well as members of PLA and Crime Lab leadership to (1) advance the creation, implementation, and long-term success of PLA alumni programming and continued engagement and (2) support Crime Lab projects that partner with law enforcement, particularly the Chicago Police Department, to develop learning and evidence that will benefit the field. Strong candidates will have experience in project or program management, government administration, and within the law enforcement landscape more generally.
Data Science Intern
The data science summer internship is a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to process data and build and evaluate predictive models. This position will be full-time for approximately 37.5 hours per week.

Project Management Intern
The Project Management summer internship is a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of policy research and to develop research skills. This position will be full-time for approximately 37.5 hours per week.
Communications Intern
The Communications Intern position is a great opportunity to gain experience in applying a variety of communications skills and expertise to policy research. This position will work directly with our Public Affairs Team and members of our individual research teams to complete a variety of tasks over the course of 10 weeks. This position will be full-time for approximately 37.5 hours per week.
